While smoking the 2006 Thanksgiving turkey … or maybe it was it Christmas ham, brothers Don and Bob Denner decided that competitive BBQ was the next challenge for them. Together the two serve as the founders and cooks of the team. At the first competition it was obvious that a third set of hands would be a plus. Tom, their dad, stepped up to the plate and often helps out at the competitons and was the brains behind transforming the cargo trailer into the Q’chen.
Older brother Don, resides in Ankeny, Iowa with Sherry, his wife, and two girls Abbi and Kara. Bob lives in Lee’s Summit Missouri, across town from Tom and Norma. The BBQ experience is primarily a reason for them and the rest of the Denner family to spend some time together. The Boondoggle Boys also have a sister, Jeanette Thiele, who along with her husband Jeff and kids Brooke and Clay live in La Porte City, Iowa; and a younger sister, Julie Price, residing in Lenexa, Kansas with her girls Myah and Audrey.
With the family spread out across the north-central midwest, Boondoggle BBQ tries to find a competition near each of their backyards so everyone in the family gets in on some of the fun.
